Three applicants, one apprenticeship: Lower Austrian Economic Chamber apprentice casting show

Be bold! This was the idea behind Putz & Stingl’s launch of 3 Bewerber, 1 Lehrstelle (3 applicants, 1 apprenticeship), a TV casting show, in collaboration with the Education Department of the Lower Austrian Economic Chamber (WKNÖ).

How can we put apprenticeships centre stage and make them more attractive for young adults? The creative minds at Putz & Stingl set about tackling this question and came up with an interactive concept in cooperation with TV broadcaster Puls 4: an apprentice casting show titled 3 Bewerber, 1 Lehrstelle. Spread across three days, the show was broadcast in late October on Puls 4, with three apprentices going head to head. The candidates had to show off their skills in a specialist quiz, sports tasks and finally by completing the brickwork for a chimney. The winner could look forward to a guaranteed apprenticeship, as well as a brand new moped.
A dream job in the retail sector, as a bricklayer or car mechanic? That was the question that needed to be answered. The call for applicants for the new show was launched across Lower Austria. Fourth-year upper secondary school pupils and pre-vocational schools in the province jumped at the opportunity to secure one of the most popular apprenticeships near their home towns. Putz & Stingl’s PR and media team came up with the creative goods before the TV show was filmed. In order to advertise the programme beforehand and generate a large number of applications, a trailer was produced together with well-known TV host Chris Stephan and broadcast on TV. Flyers were distributed at schools and online advertorials were used to promote the casting show, maximising awareness and encouraging would-be apprentices to apply for a place on the programme.

All those who registered were invited to take part in a pre-casting process, in which the three candidates for the TV show were selected. The applicants had to prove their expertise in the categories ‘personal skills’ and ‘professional knowledge’ in order to complete the tasks set by the panel of judges. The panel – Isabella Zacek from Puls 4, Klara Birgl from WKNÖ and TV presenter Chris Stephan – assessed the applicants’ qualities before selecting the top three candidates to take part in the show. Putz & Stingl also collaborated with Puls 4 to produce an exciting video for the casting process.
